Orbit Cards — Sharing Your Decks
What Can Be Shared?
You can share any deck or sub-deck you own, except:
- System decks (Uncategorised, General) — these are platform-managed and cannot be shared.
Two Scopes: Full Deck vs Sub-deck
When you click 🔗 Share on a deck or sub-deck, the sharing page always tells you exactly what will be accessible:
Three Share Types — Each with Its Own Icon
Sharing Rules You Need to Know
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You share the full deck (e.g. "Biology") | Sub-decks ("Chapter 1", "Chapter 2") cannot be shared separately — the parent share already covers them. You will see a 🔒 blocked notice on their share pages. |
| You share a sub-deck independently | A sub-deck can only have one share type active at a time (Public Link, or Specific Users, or Groups). To switch type, revoke the existing share first. |
| You share the full deck (top-level) | A top-level deck can have all three share types active at the same time — for example, a public link for everyone plus a private user share with extra copy permissions. |
Permissions (Three Coloured Dots)
Each share carries three independent permissions, shown as coloured dots (🟢 allowed · ⚪ not allowed) in the order Study · Export · Copy:
- Study — Open a full study/flashcard session through the deck.
- Export — Download the deck as a CSV file or print it.
- Copy — Clone the deck to their own OrbitingFox account.
Status Chips on the Deck Profile Page
When a deck has active shares, coloured chips appear on its profile page:
- 🔗 Public Link — indigo/blue chip — click to preview the shared view.
- 👤 @username — green chip per user.
- 🏢 Group name — amber chip per group.
Click Manage → next to the chips to open the sharing dashboard.
Revoking a Share
Click ✕ next to any user or group, or 🔒 Revoke on the public link card. The link becomes invalid immediately and the chip disappears from the deck profile page.
Groups Card — Using Contact Groups
The Groups card in the sharing panel uses Contact Groups — groups you create and manage in Contacts → Groups. These are lightweight access lists, separate from FoxCom Spaces.
- The picker shows groups you own. Groups owned by others are not available for your shares.
- If the picker is empty, create a group first, then return here.
- Access check: a group member must have a linked OrbitingFox account (🟢 Platform badge in Contacts) to access the shared content.
