Sharing — Public Links Explained
Public Links
A public link is a URL that anyone can open — no OrbitingFox account needed. It is the easiest way to share content with people who are not members of the platform.
Security
Public link tokens are UUID version 4, which means they have 122 bits of randomness. This makes them effectively impossible to guess by brute force. They are not listed anywhere publicly — only people who have the URL can find the content.
Generating a Public Link
- Open the content you want to share (e.g. an Orbit Cards deck).
- Click Share.
- Under Public Link, click Generate Public Link.
- Copy the link and share it however you like.
Revoking a Public Link
Click Revoke on the share management page. The link becomes invalid immediately. You can generate a new link at any time — it will have a different token.
Admin Control
Site administrators can disable public link sharing platform-wide from the Sharing Settings page in the admin dashboard. When disabled, users cannot create new public links, but existing ones are not automatically revoked.
